The manual — how the flat Earth works

1. The map

The Earth is one rectangle of 31,940 km × 15,970 km (about the real surface area). Inside it, 5,215 lands are surveyed: 7 continents, their countries and their states, each a rectangle in whole meters, roughly where the real place is and sized by its real area within its continent. The gaps are ocean: decoration, not land. Antarctica is a single land. Every land is an NFT; its address reads like a domain name, the land first and the continent last: site7.lazstreet.santhome.ward126.mylapore.chennai.tamilnadu.india.asia, or lot350.fifthavenue.midtown.manhattan.newyork.unitedstates.northamerica. Its page is at the path the other way round, like folders: /asia/india/tamilnadu for tamilnadu.india.asia.

2. The auction, in waves

One continent a week, each land in it (the continent itself, its countries and states) in its own 7-day English auction in $FLARTH:

  • the first bid must reach the start price; every next bid 110% of the top bid;
  • you can top up your own bid; outbid $FLARTH can be withdrawn any time;
  • a bid with under 6 hours left moves the end to 6 hours after that bid;
  • after the end anyone settles: the land goes to the winner and the winning $FLARTH is burned;
  • a land nobody bid on stays with the protocol; the founders decide when it comes back.
  1. 1. Europe1,950 lands
  2. 2. Asia1,225 lands
  3. 3. North America457 lands
  4. 4. South America254 lands
  5. 5. Africa1,156 lands
  6. 6. Oceania172 lands
  7. 7. Antarctica1 lands

The whole Earth starts at 100,000,000 $FLARTH, 10% of the 1,000,000,000 supply: each state (or country without states) gets its share by its share of world GDP, with a floor for its size; a country or continent starts at the sum of what is in it. Bids can go far above. See them all in the ledger.

3. Containers and territory

A country with states, or any land you cut up, is a container: it stays a tradable NFT and carries the territory rights, the tax income from below and the right to pick the currency. It does not own the lands inside it; those have their own owners. Buy India and you earn from every sale in Tamil Nadu, even though Tamil Nadu is someone else’s.

4. Cut it up, merge it back

The owner of a land that is not cut up (a leaf) can cut it into vertical or horizontal strips (guillotine cuts: the pieces always tile it exactly), down to 1 m and up to level 10. Each piece is a new NFT with a name you pick (a–z, 0–9, -). Two pieces of yours side by side under the same land, sharing a full edge, merge back into one. A rented land can’t be cut or merged until the tenant’s term ends.

5. Sell and rent, with tax

List any land for a price, or for rent (a total price for a term you choose). The buyer or tenant pays in the land’s currency and 5% tax goes out in the same transaction:

  • 2% Your parent land · the place right above yours
  • 0.8% 2nd up · e.g. the country
  • 0.2% 3rd up · e.g. the continent
  • 2% Treasury · the founders’ Safe

A level that doesn’t exist, the root, or a land still held by the protocol sends its share to the treasury. Tax rates are fixed in the contract. A tenant keeps the land until the term ends even if it is sold; nobody can evict them early.

6. Currencies

Every land trades in $FLARTH unless its territory picks another currency; a land inherits the currency of the nearest land above it that set one. Only allowlisted tokens can be picked: $FLARTH, USDG and the pons tokens ($SIN, $LIBY, $TOLK). More on request after checks (a standard ERC-20 with no fee on transfer).

7. $FLARTH

The coin of the flat Earth, launched on pons: 1,000,000,000 supply, 100,000,000 of it is what the whole map starts at. Every winning auction bid is burned, so the more land is won, the flatter the supply. The 2% tax goes to the treasury (the founders’ Safe). $FLARTH comes first: the land contracts are set up with its address and refuse to start without it (no Earth, no auction, until the coin exists).

8. Who can do what

The deployer surveyed the map once and sealed it for good: nobody can create land any more except owners cutting their own. After that its only powers are opening auction waves for the protocol’s unsold land, the currency allowlist, the treasury address and the metadata link. It has no power over any land a player owns.

9. Contracts (Robinhood Chain)

  • FlatEarth deploying soon · The land NFTs (ERC-721, EIP-4907 rent): the tree, cuts, merges, currencies, attributes.
  • FlatAuction deploying soon · The wave auctions in $FLARTH (winning bids are burned).
  • FlatMarket deploying soon · Sales and rent, with the 5% tax paid out in the same transaction.
  • FlatLens deploying soon · Read-only: everything about a land in one call.

Land id = keccak256(abi.encodePacked(parentId, keccak256(label))), the root is keccak256("earth"). Geometry is in whole meters, local to the parent. Token metadata: https://www.flatearth.land/api/flat/meta/<0x id>.

10. API, for apps and AI agents (JSON, CORS open)

A metaverse for humans, a real world for AI agents: an agent can win, buy or rent a land, put its details on it (attributes) and be found at a physical address. The skill for agents: /api/flat/agent-skill (markdown, with the live contract addresses).

  • GET /api/flat/resolve?addr=tamilnadu.india.asia · one land, live from the chain: owner, tenant, size, currency, attributes, offers, auction

11. The fine print

flatearth.land is a satire game. A land here is an NFT, not real land: it gives no right to, claim on or connection with any real place, and the project has no affiliation with any country, state or government. Names and outlines are for fun and are approximate. Transactions on Robinhood Chain are final; bid only what you are happy to spend on a joke.
